Offical City Council Minutes - June 4, 2008 he Larchwood City Council met in regular session on June 3, 2008 at the Larchwood Legion. Council members present were Josh Feucht, Mike Metzger, Sharon Meffert, Dean Snyders and Ted Underberg arrived later. Also present were Tony DeSmet, Carla Manning and Verdona Kelly. Correspondence was received from Louise Dubbelde of S.W.E.L.L. thanking the City Council for a free membership to the Rec Center as an incentive to their participants. This session’s winner is Karla Gerber of Lester. A letter was received from Virgil Munger thanking the City for the removal of the dead trees next to his and John Doherty’s property. Cigarette Permits Permits were approved on motions from Snyders and Metzger to the following businesses: B&B Bar, Larchwood Quick Stop, Larchwood Mini Mart, SportsCenter and Larchwood Food Center. Liquor License A renewal for a liquor license was approved for the Larchwood Mini Mart on motions from Metzger and Meffert. Building Permit A building permit was approved for Double R Properties – office building. Water Heater Rebates Rebates were issued to Jonathon Folkens, Chis Hovaldt and Doug Merk. Tony DeSmet gave his maintenance report which included pouring cement at the park and baseball diamond, discharging the lagoon, fixing sprinkler heads at the ball diamond, spraying weeds around ball fields, dumpster repair and clean up around town. Resolution 2008-9 Resolution to approve final selling price of $31,860.00 and authorization of the City Council to allow Mayor Vanden Bosch to sign on behalf of the City of Larchwood for transfer of city property to Double R Properties was approved by unanimous vote. Resolution 2008-10 As the Larchwood Car Club will host a "Burn Out" and Cruise Event, Council Member Underberg introduced the following resolution entitled: "Resolution of the City Council of Larchwood, Iowa, to hereby revoke the following section 2.06 Squealing Tires on July 11, 2008 from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Broadway Street and moved that the same be adopted, seconded by Snyders, Carried. Mayor Vanden Bosch called for a roll call vote which is as follows: Feucht-Aye, Metzger-Aye, Meffert-Aye, Snyders-Aye, Underberg-Aye. Whereupon Mayor Vanden Bosch declared Resolution 2008-10 passed. Discussion was held on the repair of the tool house at the cemetery. After discussion it is the council’s feeling that the building is not being used and should be torn down. The building is falling apart and the cost of repairs would be expensive. The City Council asked Tony to tear down in the fall. The Council discussed the storm sewer situation on the south end of the park and decided to try to tie the sewer together in the fall. All the water from the west side of main street to the park, drains into the middle and causes flooding when it rains. It is also affecting the trees that have been planted to slant. Financial Reports and minutes from the May 5th meeting were approved and signed on motions from Metzger and Underberg. Revenue and Expenditures for the month of May are as follows:
The Council then went in to closed session to discuss Sandi DeSmet’s wages. After returning to session the Council voted to give Sandi a raise of $1.31 on motions from Metzger and second by Snyders. The meeting was then adjourned. Sandi DeSmet, City Clerk |
